Target Title

A target title tells the reader what kind of role your resume is built for. Match the language of the job when it is honest and accurate.

Professional Summary

Use 2-4 lines to connect your background to the job. Avoid vague claims like “hardworking professional” unless you immediately prove them.

Weak summary:

Stronger summary:

“Customer support specialist with 4 years of experience resolving SaaS account issues, improving help center content, and training new agents. Strong fit for customer success roles that need technical troubleshooting, clear communication, and retention-focused support.”

Choose the Right US Resume Format

Reverse-Chronological Resume

Use this format if your recent work history supports the job you want. List your most recent role first and keep each bullet tied to results, tools, scope, or responsibilities that matter for the target position.

Combination Resume

Functional Resume

What to Include in Work Experience

Instead of:

Write:

Instead of:

  • Helped customers with questions

Write:

  • Resolved 40-50 customer requests per day across email and chat while documenting repeat issues for the product team

You do not need a number in every bullet. If you do not have a reliable metric, use scale, frequency, tools, audience, or business context.

Skills, Education, and Optional Sections

Your skills section should mirror the job description without keyword stuffing. Group skills when it improves readability:

  • Tools: Salesforce, HubSpot, Excel, Google Analytics
  • Technical: SQL, Python, data visualization, dashboard QA
  • Languages: English, Spanish

Education can be short once you have work experience. Include degree, school, location, and graduation year if useful. Recent graduates can add coursework, honors, projects, or GPA when it strengthens the application.

Optional sections are useful only when they support the target job. Add projects for technical or portfolio work, certifications for regulated or tool-heavy fields, and volunteer leadership when it shows relevant skills.

  • Keep the layout clean with consistent headings, spacing, and bullet style.
  • Use readable fonts and avoid decorative design that makes parsing harder.
  • Save a PDF when the employer allows it, but follow upload instructions exactly.

  • Remove photos, personal demographics, references, and “references available upon request.”
